Children, Diet and Behavior
At a recent party, a two year old I adore had a full blown, way beyond the normal two-year old, melt down. So, she and Dad left the party early and when they got home to Mom, who gave the little one protein which immediately settled her down.
Mom had recently observed that her daughter seemed to require protein every few hours, or had severe temper tantrums. So this was the perfect time to double check the theory and it again proved true.
This begs the question, since studies say sugar doesn’t affect the behavior of children, could the behavior issues actually be caused by the lack of protein? This very conscious mom was really paying attention and her awareness of nutrition and her own child really paid off. I wonder how many children are given drugs, when it’s really a matter of a need for more protein, more often, in their diets. This family eats very healthy, balanced meals. No processed foods, mostly organic, lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains. What about the kids that head out after a breakfast of sugary cereals, or sweet rolls or nothing at all?
